MY
BACKGROUND
Inspired
by my artistic Grandmother and Mother to communicate visually I began
painting before Kindergarten. My Father sent me to nursing school when
I graduated from High school (so I could learn to earn a living). Immediately
I discovered an after-school job in the Medical Illustrations Department
of the hospital where I trained. As soon as I earned my "R.N.,"
I paid my way to Europe and studied art. When I returned to my hometown
of Laguna Beach California, I continued my studies at The Laguna College
of Art and Design, Orange Coast College and a variety of workshops.
Grateful to be able to support myself by painting and teaching art I
aspire to never retire. I want to continue to grow as an artist and
remain surrounded within a community of artists as long as I live.
MY
STYLE
Blessed
to be living in the beautiful surroundings of Laguna Beach, I usually
paint charming neighborhood houses, sensuous sea creatures, shells,
waves, the beach, stately trees, the graceful hillsides and elegant
koi fish circling in nearby ponds. I work in pencil, ink, watercolors,
acrylics and oils in an expressionistic style that comes close to realism
and can be sometimes vaguely surreal. I enjoy a thick impasto when appropriate
for my expression and enjoy rich colors along with the infinite tones
of grey I see.
